Tequila, orange juice, and grenadine. A match made in heaven.
Created in the 1970s, the Tequila Sunrise is one of those cocktails that can divide people. Easy to make and just as easy to knock back, there can be a certain amount of snobbery around this three ingredient drink.
However, historically, this drink was popular for a reason. Invented by Bobby Lozoff and Billy Rice in California, it quickly became associated with The Rolling Stones and the Eagles named a song after it. It's endured well and continues to be a holiday staple across the world.
Because of the small ingredient list, go for fresh orange juice and a higher quality of tequila. And take it easy. These go down fast.
Ingredients
50 ml blanco tequila
100 ml fresh orange juice
15 ml grenadine
Garnish: maraschino cherry
Method
Add the tequila and orange juice to a highball glass filled with ice.
Pour over the grenadine, which will sink to the bottle.
Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry. Resist the urge to include a tiny umbrella.
